How much do car tires cost? And where is the best place to get them?

I'm totally broke and need cheap tires since mine are worn out. I do quite a bit of long distance driving and have been risking it over the last year, especially in rain. But it's time to get them replaced. I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer if that helps. I got the car in 2005 and have only replaced one tire since because I got a flat. Will rotating my tires now help just a little bit till I can get money saved?|||If you drive long distance, you definitely need reliable tires. When buying a new tire, it should not be cheap. What you need is to maximize your money. Decide what type, size, speed and speed rating. Car tire that is worth $90 that runs 35k or more is better than a tire worth $50 that only lasts for 20k. Also decide what type of tire you want: snow tires, all season, or high performance. Make a canvass first in your local store, some store gives discount when you buy 2 or more tires.

But since you are broke, I suggest that you rotate your car tire. This practice can maximize your car tire life and equalize the wear of it. You should plan and stick on your car tire rotation. If you decide to rotate your car for every 5,000 miles, you should stick to it. Cross rotation is also a good habit to maximize your tire life. You just replace your tire in the opposite direction. For example your rear left tire should be place on the front at the right side. While the other right rear tire should be place on the front left. Same thing with the front tires.|||Broke or not, tires are a safety issue. Most tire shops (like discount tire) have a credit card. Although I don't recommend using credit, in this case it can spread the payments out over a few months.

Check tire prices at tirerack.com.|||Firestone is doing a buy 3 get 1 free sale on a couple of their tires. My Dad was able to get 4 tires for his Accord for about $350.00. Out of the two, I do recommend the Firehawk GT.
