How can you tell if your bike tires have enough pressure?

I think I might need to add some air to my tires. Is it possible to overpressurize the tires when pumping by hand? Should I just pump until I can't get anymore air in there?|||Jeez! You don't have an air pump? Or at least an air gauge? Get a good floor model with a gauge built in. Yes it is possible to over pressurize a tire. No, do not keep pumping until you can't pump anymore.|||Dingle

Get a pressure gauge at your local bike shop. Do not exceed the pressure indicated on the sidewall of the tire. For sake of not having a gauge, I would simply pinch the tire from the sidewalls and the tread down. It should give way slightly, about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch, do not overfill.... and certainly do not pump until no more goes in.... that bang you hear will be the excess air escaping!

Knowing what pressure you have in your tyre is the way to go. Get a separate pressure gauge if you don't need a new pump. Then check the maximum pressure moulded on the side-wall of your tyres - that's the limit.

Once you've got the tyre to a known pressure, put your fingers under the rim and push down with your thumb on the tyre. Then you'll know how firm = what pressure.|||It will depend on the size of the tire. Small tires require high pressures. The tire should feel pretty firm. If you can feel every little thing on the road lower the pressure a little. Tires leak and need pumped up every so often. Buy a floor pump with a gauge.|||Use a pump with a guage. The recommended pressure range will usually be printed somewhere on the sidewall of the tire. If you are small and light, pump your tires to the lower rrecommendation, if you are big and heavy, pump to the maximum|||use a pressure gauge.

You can pump it too much that the tube explodes and your stuck with buying a new tube.

Buy a floor pump that has a pressure gauge on it.|||Buy a quality pump that measure psi...most any bike shop will carry such a pump; and no, don't pump till you can't pump no mo!|||kick it i guess
