Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?

I need to get a new tire on my car because I've been driving on a donut and my mom keeps suggesting I just get a used tire since I don't have much money for a new tire right now. But when I priced used tires and the charge to have them put it on, I may as well buy a new tire! The only way for me to save is if my husband puts the tire on for me. Of course he doesn't have one of those pressurized machines that they have at the shop. Is it safe to drive on a tire for a long time that you just put on yourself? Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
It is not easy to get a car tire off the rim or to put a new tire on the rim if you don't have some equipment that most people don't have. It can be done, but by the time you are half through you will wish you had paid to have it done. You probably need a new valve stem as well as a replacement tire and it will certainly need to be balanced if you are going to drive it at highway speed.

BTW, you didn't ask, but riding for a long time or at high speed on the doughnut is dangerous and will make you have to replace it too and they are not cheap. I would park it until I could afford to fix it.
If it's put on right it is. Driving on a donut is dangerous, does your husband know what he's doing? Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
I install all my own tires. It would be tough to install a tire on a wheel wrong. If it holds air it should be on right. It will be hard for him to change it without all the proper tools, and even with the tools it will be a hard job.

GOOD LUCK
If he's going to put a tire on your car that has a rim on there already then it's ok he can do it. It's not hard. But if he has to install a rim on that tire then I suggest he take it somewhere so they can balance it. I hope that helps you.Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
Its not actually that hard to put on a tyre. Your hubby will need a couple of tyre levers and a rubber hammer, also a valve key. however you will still need to get the wheel balanced at a tyre shop, another way is to go to the junkyard and find a car the same as yours and get the wheel and tyre off it
You need to get the tire balanced because the vibrations will wreck other parts on your car. I have changed car tires with a pry bar and it is extremely hard work. Plus you run the risk or damaging the bead of the tire. Just get it done at a shop. If you need to drive on the donut don't put it on a drive wheel. Example front wheel drive donut on back. Otherwise you will destroy the differential in the car.
depends on if you know what you doing its not easy and it takes strength an used tires normally run about 20 bucks
