How to inflate tires at gas station?

I've never inflated tires on a car before, and took a trip to a few gas stations around here. All of the stations had air stations with just a plain tube to pump air straight into the tire, but none of them had a pressure gage. Is it common knowledge that you're supposed to bring your own tire gage to check the tire pressure before and after inflating your tires? Or am I missing something? How to inflate tires at gas station?
It's not a bad idea to have your own gauge to check the pressure. Some stations have a gauge built into the end of the hose when you let off of the valve on the airhose it pops out and reads the tire pressure. Since you have no idea how the gauges on the air hoses have been treated it is still a good idea to check with your own gauge. You can pick one up at walmart for around $1.00. Remember to fill your tires to the pressure recommended by your car maker. The correct pressure is listed on the inside of most cars drive side door.
Buying your own tire pressure gauge is a must. You should check your tire pressures every 2-4 weeks to ensure your tires are at the correct pressure. When filling your tires at a gas station check your door tag (normally drivers side), it should tell you what pressure to set if the tires are cold (if it's hot outside and you've been driving a while add appx 2-3psi more then check them the next morning to ensure they are correct). Check the tire pressure before filling and make sure you release some air out of the compressor hose (water builds up in the line). Correct tire pressures ensure optimal fuel economy, even tire wear and life, and prevents blow outs due to over or under-inflation. Do not fill the tire to the max pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire that can lead to blow-out while driving!!!! Drive safely. How to inflate tires at gas station?
Different tires will require different pressures, but fortunately, most of them print it somewhere on the tire. Sometimes those machines have pressure gauges on them and sometimes they don't. You can get one really cheap, though, at a Wal-Mart or even a gas station. You want to fill your tire as close as you can to the PSI that the tire states. If you go too far over, just move that little pin in the valve to the side, and you'll release some. Good luck!
Lots of Gas Stations have had their tire pressure gauges stolen. So now they just put those hoses with the part to put air in a tire as they only cost something like a couple bucks and the ones with air gauges cost up to twenty.

I go by sight when I need air in my tires but really that isn't good. That is why I really like Discount Tire as they will check your air pressure and add or take away what is needed for no charge.

So your not missing anything. You just didn't know why they don't have gauges.

Hope this helps and have a Blessed Day. How to inflate tires at gas station?
Yes lots of them have no gage. Go to an auto parts store and buy a 5 or 6 dollar gage(more accurate than Walmart) and keep it in the glove box. You can borrow the gage from the gas station but those may have been thrown around or dropped, etc so may not be accurate. If you use one gage all the time you will have a more accurate constant air pressure..........ujn
Yes, bring your own. Even if they have one, don't trust it. They are abused and are often off on their readings. Buy the pencil type as generally speaking they are more accurate than the dial gauges.
Yes you should have your own pressure gauge. They are very cheap. I also have a digital one that works nice at night. Even if there is one on the air pump, you may not want to trust that it is right on.
There are some things you should always have in your car, a tire pressure gage is one of them.
