What is the advantages of proper keeping tires at optimum Air pressure?

So other then giving the over inflated wind bags of the Fascist Right something to "Laugh at".

Why is Mario Andriette one of the Greatest race car drivers Ever, on TV advocating proper air pressure in the tires of our vehicles?

Is there more to this then just getting maximum fuel mileage from our cars? What is the advantages of proper keeping tires at optimum Air pressure?
It's because Republicans refuse to agree with anything left says. The left should start telling people that breathing is good for your health that way all of the neocons will refuse to breath.

It must be horrible to have so much pride that when politician you dislike recommends a common sense remedy for saving gas, saving your tires and being safer on the road and people mock him. It's like saying you can save money on medical bills by wearing your seat belt while you're in a vehicle and seeing all of the fascist neo-cons refuse to wear their seat belts out of pride. This would actually be a great way to rid our country of stupid people.

EDIT - There are no disadvantages to keeping your tire pressure at optimum levels. The only disadvantage for the Obama bashers would be to admit Obama is right. If Obama says 1+1=2, then the Obama hating cult will start redefining basic math. Although, I wouldn't be shocked to find out the Obama haters couldn't solve that problem without a calculator anyway.
I keep mine inflated properly so Obama's energy plan doesn't save me anything. What is the advantages of proper keeping tires at optimum Air pressure?
Higher air preasure harder tires less resistance on the road - better gas milage.
Proper air pressure reduces friction on the road which increases mileage. Proper inflation can reduce wear and tear on tires and possibly prevent tire blow outs.

You can also improve mileage by taking stuff out of your trunk to reduce weight. Golf clubs, tools, bowling ball, etc.

Great advice. Just not an energy policy. What is the advantages of proper keeping tires at optimum Air pressure?
it is odd. over inflating them will give you better gas mileage than inflating them to the correct pressure, but then it will be more dangerous for you when you drive.

under inflating can actually be safer (not always), but gives you worse gas mileage.
Yes..

It will get fat Americans used to being on their knees.... The first step in praying to the Obamessiah. LOL
Not what is but what are.

Better gas mileage.

Better tire life.

I hope you over inflate your tires beyond the mfg recommendation and have a blow out. Maybe you can bring a law suit against Nobama for damages moron.
it's a trade off

under inflated you get traction.. but you also have more road resistance and lower mpg

over inflated you lose traction but your MPG will go up

both under and over.. will cause uneven wear on your tires.. so that'll cost you too.. they will wear out sooner..

Read your manual. Proper tire pressure makes your car handle properly and minimizes friction with the road. If the whole country endeavoured to do small things to reduce energy use we'd be saving at least 3% annually.

Americans are mostly way out of shape. They should learn to walk or ride a bike not only in the interest of saving fuel but to save their health and dramatically reduce their health care costs.

Under inflating is not safer. Over inflating may save you for a bit but it will decrease the life of your tire - tires are a petroleum product. Over inflated tires can blow out causing an up close and personal with a tree.
Yes. Under-inflated tires affect handling, wear your tires out quicker since parts of the side walls may come in contact with the road during turning and your ride comfort are just a few.

The fact that folks still laugh at this issue amazes me.
