How does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?

I have seen ads for getting your tires filled with nitrogen, They claim it gives you better gas milage. I am not doubting their claim I just wanted to know how it gives you better gas milage and are there other advantages or disadvantages of doing itHow does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
They are trying to pull a fast one. Plain air is 78.1% Nitrogen already. Using pure Nitrogen in your street tires would be a total waste of your money.
cause your car floatsHow does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
It doesnt it is BS
The fact is that pure nitrogen will not escape from your tyres as fast as air does (and even tht is very slow rate), so your tyres are more likely to be correctly inflated and give better fuel consumption.

If you check your tyres pressures on a weekly basis then nitrogen will make no difference at all.How does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
Nitrogen is stable and does not change pressure at different temperatures, So therfore it doesn't expand and contract when the tires heat up and cool down causing consistant tire pressure and all operating temps. It's basic, and no there are not ripping you off. I use nitrogen all the time for pressure testing refrigeration systems.
Air is 79% nitrogen already, so the question is really what would happen if you filled your tyres with air, and took out all the oxygen.

I think the answer is: not a lot!
Nitrogen is good if you are concerned about the change in tire pressure as they heat up and leakage from the tire over time. Other than that there is no benefit. For a car driven on the street this is a waste of effort.
