How much would it cost to have someone remove my tires from the wheel and mount on another wheel?

Was considering buying new wheels; I want the same size so I can use the tires I have now (since they're fairly new), but was curious as to how much I would be expecting to pay to have someone remove the tires from all four of the wheels I currently have and then mount/balance them on the new ones. Just a general idea would be great. How much would it cost to have someone remove my tires from the wheel and mount on another wheel?
Depends on where you go and where you live. But any where from 9.00 to 25.00 per tire. How much would it cost to have someone remove my tires from the wheel and mount on another wheel?

How big of tires and wheels can I put on my car?
yes 15 's should work on it fine your only talking about a 1/2 clearance. so you can change the profile of the tires you use on the 15's to 60 ' or 55 and they should be close to the stock size in diameter . I am guessing your car has 205-70or75 -14 on it now . so dropping the Profile a size or 2 will take it right back to the stock size and not change your speedometer readings . just double check with your tire dealer they can get you pretty close on the size you need. this is so every thing reads the same . The gas mileage will not change .
some websites that sell tires will have a vehicle specific guide as to the max tire/wheel size you could use. Just remember that if you go bigger than the stock size that your speedometer will not be accurate. How big of tires and wheels can I put on my car?
One size up will be fine but as you go bigger you'll need to up grade your suspension as well as your braking system. Also make sure to have car re aligned as well as wheels balanced.

Mismatched tires - is it ok to change 2 tires or do I have to change all 4 at once?

I am thinking of buying a used car but it has 2 front tires that are one brand, and 2 back tires that are another. I'm thinking of just getting the tires all the same brand, but then some will be newer than others, does that matter?Mismatched tires - is it ok to change 2 tires or do I have to change all 4 at once?
It depends of the car. It is important If you are buying a 4 wheel drive, has to be same tires, new by preference or used equally. If the car is front wheel drive, the newer tires should be in the front. If back wheel drive, the newer tires should be in the back. Hope it helps!
He IS cute!!! happy you liked the answer..颅.

Mismatched tires - is it ok to change 2 tires or do I have to change all 4 at once?
It is better to have 4 similar tyres, but if you can't afford 4 new ones you will do no harm by driving on different tyres. Put the best ones on the front also.
I do it all the time makes no differance as long as the tires are the same size they will be just fine 4x4 FWD RWD it all works out the same in the end heck I evan do it with my big duallies and trailersMismatched tires - is it ok to change 2 tires or do I have to change all 4 at once?
as long as they are rated the same, meaning same size, width etc... you are fine. Each tire has a code looks like this

165/65r/15

just compare all 4 and make sure they are the same
All four of my tires are different name brands... and it runs great.. as long as they all in good shape, and are balanced .. it'll prob run smother with all the same, but it's good enough
well they say you should have all four the same brand, however it does not really matter, it does detract a bit from resale price, but I have ran tires of different brand, as long as they are proper size and legal!! Some vehicles will wear tires unevenly, usually tires of different brand says something about the person or maintenance of the vehicle, if the tires were rotated at proper intervals, they would all be worn out, hence all needing to be replaced at the same time. on rear wheel drive vehicles, or I guess front too, they may have done a lot of tire spinning!!- I would look close at the wear of the tires to check for possible mechanical problems or adjustments. Or did they just throw a new set on the front to hide a misalignment problem. You never know!!But yes it is OK!
It all depends on what type of drive system it has. If it is a FWD or RWD, Just as long as the two front or two rear match it's okay. If it is an AWD or 4WD all tires should have the same tread pattern.
No. It's not permissible to mix different sizes, steel braced with textile braced or cross plies with radials.

However a set of matching tyres is always the best scenario.

PS: Always put the best tyres on the front.
This type of condition is and can be an indicator of poor car maintenance due to the fact that it can show the lack of tire rotation.

you may went to ask for maintenance records.

it is a good practice to rotate your tire every other oil change.

Other than that pairing of the tires should not be a problem.
as long as the vehicle is not 4 wheel drive having mismatched tires front to rear is not going to be any trouble. however you would never want mismatched tires and the driven axle. (front wheel drive would be the front axle and rear wheel drive would be the rear axle).

Why do the big tires on huge trucks make that whirrrring sound?

They're tires, just huge. All cars have tires yet I only hear that whirrrrring sound on those trucks with huge tires. Why do the big tires on huge trucks make that whirrrring sound?
Big tires usually have big treads. If you look at your tires on your car, you will notice that the tread is either small blocks, or waves that go around the tire. On off road tires the tread is made up of big blocks so it will grip in dirt and mud. Each time one of those blocks hit the asphalt it makes a sound. Like hitting a drum. You don't notice the noise when the truck is going slow, but once it speeds up the treads are hitting the ground hard enough and fast enough that they make that whirring sound. Why do the big tires on huge trucks make that whirrrring sound?
It's all in the tread pattern, offroad designed tires as put on truck enthusiast have knobby tread which grabs onto dirt and mud and whatever else is unfortunate to get under them. On the road these hit the ground and make a pronounced noise especially at interstate speeds (and of course higher).

Car tires can make noise too, mostly run flat tires and from what I've seen a lot of Bridgestone Potenzas. You probably wouldn't notice it unless you were driving a well sound insulated car as wind noise can easily cover this up. My grandmothers car (a Nissan Maxima) the rear tires drive me nuts. Why do the big tires on huge trucks make that whirrrring sound?
MN~MKK, cuz the grooves in the tires when they're turning all the air pressure gets trapped and released as the tires turn hence the noise...
umm idk whatta u think prob the tread gripping the road or maybe the weight yea the tread

When you lift a truck do you need new tires?

I am currently looking into buying a truck but my only problem is that it has a lift on it but the original tires. Is this bad for the truck? If I were to replace the tires would i then have to replace shocks, struts, etc...? I like the truck I'm just not sure if I want to double the price of the vehicle from extra things i'd have to do to it.When you lift a truck do you need new tires?
If the lift was done right, the shocks and such will not need to be replaced.

If you put over sized tires on it however the speedometer will need adjustment.

If the speedometer was adjusted to over sized tires and you use stock, you will be going much slower then you think.

So find out what has been done before buying and just get the parts to match the changes (tires that match the calibration on the speedometer.)When you lift a truck do you need new tires?
I would replace the original tires, they look too small after you lift a vehicle.... get bigger tires.

It's close to needing tires and I really can't afford to spend much. It came with 17 inch rims so I know they will be more expensive, but I really just can't afford to spend a lot on them. What kind of snow tires do you recommend for 06' saturn vue?

Hi, I just purchase an 06' saturn vue which came with 18" tires and chrome wheels. I'm looking for snow tires for this vue, I believe 16" tires would work from looking at other forums. I would like 18" snowtires so I could leave the chrome on but I think they might be too expensive.

If I buy the 16" do you have any recommendations and the only thing i'll need besides that is a wheel cover or am i missing something? What kind of snow tires do you recommend for 06' saturn vue?
the tire rack has various reader opinions and recommendations of all types of tires from all car lines.

    as mentioned tirerack

You need WHEELS if you go with a different inner diameter tire (ie 18" -%26gt; 16") Tirerack has winter wheel and tire packages.

Personnally, despite living in Illinois, Minnesota and Wyoming for most of my driving life (started in '76); I have never found the need for snow tires. What kind of snow tires do you recommend for 06' saturn vue?

What is my best option for tires on my Jeep Wrangler?

I just got some new 15"x8" rims for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I'm looking to get some new tires but want ones that look the best. i have no lift kit on my jeep so i know im very limited. I would like to get some AT's or MT's, but nothing to rugged. What is the biggest size i can get that willl look the best? What is my best option for tires on my Jeep Wrangler?
With no lift, I would go with a 31" tire. Unless you are going to be playing in the mud (so bad for your jeep unless you are diligent about cleaning the engine compartment often) or on jagged rocks, I would stick with an AT tire over an MT tire. AT tires are going to wear better and last longer...they will also produce less road noise and will cost you less to purchase.

An all around great AT tire is BF Goodrich AT. It is a fairly hard rubber, so you should get some great millage out of it, but the tread is aggressive enough that it looks nice and will perform well in most low level offroad scenarios.

If you have your mind set on a MT tire because they look cooler, then I would stay away from BR Goodrich. Their MT tire is very soft and you are not going to get very many miles out of them before they are balder than a new born baby. I've never been a fan of MT tires, so I can't tell you what a good brand is.

If you want a great all around tire that will get you decent millage, look aggressive and cool as hell, and is generally accepted as one of the best all around offroad tires on the market, then you should consider Goodyear MT/Rs.

Don't let the MT part fool you...this is NOT a mud tire. MT/R stands for "More Traction/Reinforced." This is a very high quality tire that has the right chemistry to last long on the pavement (keep them rotated ever 3000 miles and aired to proper pressure and you should get 25-30K out of them). The reinforced bit has to do with the sidewalls. Most AT/MT tires are going to have sidewalls that are 3-5 walls thick. The MT/Rs have sidewalls that are 6-8 walls thick, depending on which load rating you buy. If you live in an area that has lots of rocks and you offroad, these tires are very sticky on the rocks and will give you great traction.

As for the bigger "badder" looking tires - a general rule of thumb - The more aggressive the tread, the less life you will get out of them (think in terms of less than 12,000 miles/one year for some tires). The heavier and bigger the tire, the worse you gas millage gets (not to mention the potential to break an axle shaft/u-joint out on the trail).

My best advice - If you have the $$ to burn on Goodyear MT/R...do it.

If you are on a tighter budget, get a BF Goodrich AT.

If you need something even cheaper, check out Big O tires.

Any way you play it, go for 30-31" tires.
I just purchased some 31 inch Super Swamper SSR and love them, they are quiet and ride better then the stock tires. What is my best option for tires on my Jeep Wrangler?
    stock rubicon with 245 r75 16 goodyear mtr's @ 48,000 miles.

still good tread, but will replace when first snow hits.
I love my BFG Mud Terrains!! I am on my second set. I would stay away from the Super Swampers if you are doing most of your driving on the road. They do not hold up well on the street. What is my best option for tires on my Jeep Wrangler?
31's are good. The best tire on the market for years in a row are the BFG Mud Terrains. They last forever.

What is best for driving a 2008 Ford Focus with low profile tires in heavy snow"?

I recently purchased a 2008 Ford Focus-4 cylinder front wheel drive and had a horrible time maneuvering in the snow and heavy slush. Should I buy new rims and snow tires next winter? Should I buy all weather tires and will I still have to buy new rims? Should I just trade it in for something that has more tire on the road? I can't keep getting to work late! I live in OHIO! Any help or comments will be appreciated:-)What is best for driving a 2008 Ford Focus with low profile tires in heavy snow"?
You might be able to get away with smaller rims and winter tires, and yes, cars are generally horrible in slush, often worse than in snow. Tire Rack has a great selection of rims and tires. Without getting rid of your low-pro's, you won't get good traction in the snow; however, keep both sets of rims, so you don't have to get your tires re-mounted when the seasons change, you can just switch out rims with the correct tires already there. If you seriously need to drive in the snow, though, you need to trade that Focus in for (if you want to stay with Ford) an F150 crew cab short bed 4x4 or an Explorer, or if you don't care what brand, get a Jeep Grand Cherokee - I have had many cars and trucks, and my 2002 Jeep is better in the snow than my snowplow truck (F350 with an 8-ft. plow and a salt spreader in the back)
Yes, buy 4 new winter tires. Rims optionalWhat is best for driving a 2008 Ford Focus with low profile tires in heavy snow"?
What you need is a set of snow/winter specific tires. Summer tires/tires that are all season have the wrong style of rubber compound, that makes it nearly impossible to in inclimate weather. Buy yourself a set of snow tires, and your car will be fine in snow/rain. As far as new wheels are concerned, the Ford Focus is an economy car, so finding a set of cheap wheels to put on the car with your snow tires will be easy. Check craigslist for a set of used Focus wheels, it should be under $100. Go to www.tirerack.com for reviews of winter tires, they also have great wheel/tire packages.

On a side note, whereever you get the tires, make sure you check the date of manufacture on the tires. Keep in mind that six years after a tire is made, it must be thrown away regardless of the mileage used. good luck and remember to drive slowly.
Low profile tires are going to be a problem in the snow. I would buy 4 stock wheels and either put all weather or snow tires on them. Before the first snow, change the tires and rims, putting the low profile ones in storage for the winter. What is best for driving a 2008 Ford Focus with low profile tires in heavy snow"?
I had the same problem here in New England. I have the low profile tires on 16" rims. I got 4 snow tires (not all season) and they work great . I believe there are only 2 snow tire sizes available for a Focus w/16" wheels, there are a lot more tire options if you can get 15" rims.

The all weather tires aren't much better than the low profile tires.

  • What is the best PSI setting for an air compressor while filling car tires?

I just bought a Bostitch Air Compressor (6 gallon) that goes up to a max of 150 PSI. What should I set it at to fill up car tires? What is the best PSI setting for an air compressor while filling car tires?
Just let it run, and fill your tires to recommended pressures. The higher the air pressure in the compressor, the faster it will air the tire up.What is the best PSI setting for an air compressor while filling car tires?
You should always fill to the recommended manufacturer tire pressure. You can find this out on the driver's door jamb. There should be s ticker there with the info you need. The recommended tire pressure is not the same for every car out there. What is the best PSI setting for an air compressor while filling car tires?
    Greater than 40 PSI.

Generally for car tires the PSI is somewhere between 30psi-40psi.

You can leave it at 150 psi, it is just going to fill the tire up extremly quick. Just to it quickly and make sure all 4 tires are the same PSI for treadwear
just turn it on and fill your tires to the recommended pressure that you check with a tire pressure gauge and when your done turn the compressor off.

This and every car were designed so that the tires do not rub. When we re engineer the suspension and drive train we also must take this into consideration.

You litteraly will have to find the interference spots and either move or cut for clearance

You could get a lower profile tire, and put spacers behind the wheel. GO TO A RIM SHOP THEY CAN ' SHOW AND TELL'!

What are the most important parts of a vehicle, other than the tires?

I don't know the others, just the tires. Please, help with this question. What are the most important parts of a vehicle, other than the tires?
Oil changes make an engine last longer. Find a shop that does nothing but oil %26amp; lube. Every car needs oiled and lubed twice a year. Once before the hot summer months and once before the cold winter months. They'll put in a thicker oil for summer and a thinner oil for winter. Plus they'll lube all the chassis points like u-joints, ball joints %26amp; tie rods.

Find a good chassis shop (aka alignment shop). One staffed by honest guys that have been around a while. Once a year take your car in for an alignment and inspection. Front end parts get sloppy before they break. They'll inspect your brakes too. A good chassis shop is like gold. This is where the lion's share of my auto maintenance money goes, but it's well worth it replacing idler arm %26amp; control arm bushings. They'll replace your brakes before you need new rotors.

The liquid cooling system of any car is responsible for over 70% of all breakdowns. Hoses burst, hose clamps get loose and leak, water pump bushings get sloppy %26amp; leak %26amp; radiators get clogged. I eliminate the radiator clogging by using Mercedes Benz coolant. It costs three times as much, but to me it's worth it (I drive a 40 year old Chevy). If you use MB coolant, you only need to change it once every 100,000 miles, or whenever the water pump needs replacing. Other than that, just watch for leaks and snug up the hose clamps from time to time.

Your battery is another item where you can be conscientious. Always buy the highest amperage battery that will fit in your car. As batteries get old they lose amperage. Why start with a battery with one foot in the grave? I like Interstate Battery because they have always treated me right. They don't need the original receipt to pro-rate their bad battery, and they will test your system for free every time you have starting issues.

The alignment once a year will make your tires last a long time, the coolant will make your radiator last a long time, the high amperage battery will make your starter last a long time and keeping good brakes on your car will make your drums %26amp; rotors last a long time.

Other than that, it's just spark plugs.
How about the brakes? What are the most important parts of a vehicle, other than the tires?
It depends on why you are asking,

I would say that no one part is more important than the others by itself. The engine is pretty important. Without that the car can't move. But it can't really move without tires either. Brakes are a big one. If the car can't stop then you are only going to be able to use it once. Assuming you don't die you would be able to drive it off but when it came time to stop, you'd have to find something to slam it into, destroying the car.

technically if you have a working engine and transmission, you have tires/wheels and brakes in good working order, you can drive the car. Everything else is convenience. You don't need doors, or windows or a radio.
What's up with this question??? You can't have one part of the vehicle without the other. All parts work in unison with each other. What are the most important parts of a vehicle, other than the tires?
Everything but mainly the driver is the most important item............

    1. Tires are the single most important safety and performance feature of any automobile.

    2. The Brakes.

    3. Suspension and Steering.

    4. Cooling system.

    5. Maintenance.
The engine.. you can't go anywhere without it. But, you can't go anywhere if the car doesn't have all the parts. They all are important. =)

Do monster car tires help increase gas mileage?

I figure that a single rotation of one of those huge tires will cover at least 4 times (maybe more, just guessing) more ground than the average tire. However, it might actually use more gas to turn a tire that size? Does anyone know?Do monster car tires help increase gas mileage?
No, the gas mileage will DECREASE, as they have a larger surface, a larger portion of the tire is subject to friction, in order to counteract that friction you will need more energy/gas. Also monster tires weigh more and will therefore require more horsepower to move, which translates into gas mileage.
No, would have the opposite effect.

They have more rolling resistance. There is also more mass to move. Both require more power, therefore more fuel.

Instead, I would change the gear set in the differential to a higher set of gears.Do monster car tires help increase gas mileage?
you are partially right.. but it would cost more to mount it and then how are you going to use your brake drums.. also there would not be enough power to get you car in motion with a tire that size.. ok.
The bigger the tire surface area that is touching the road, the more friction or drag, (The extra weight won't help either)Causing your M.P.G. to drop a lot.

Why do you want monster car tires anyway?Do monster car tires help increase gas mileage?
The exact opposite. Because it takes more energy to turn the tire a full rotation, they burn more gas. I lost 2 mpg when I went up 1" in my rim size.
they are extremely heavy they would decrease your gas mileage substantially, I was watching dirty jobs and one of those huge tires fell on the camera man and he got injured
yes they make you use more gas plus it can change the way your speedotomer read, like adds five miles on to your speed. like you think your doing 30mph and really your going 35mph
DUDE NO lol the bigger an heaver the more gas it needs to like carry that extra weight!
    no 33s from 29s = 25 mpg to 18 mpg

  • Would anyone know how much tire balancing costs at Firestone tires?

I had just recently caused my driver side front tire go out of balance. I know it's out of balance because it's a bit of a bumpy ride and the steering wheel shakes when i go fifty and over. Would anyone know how much tire balancing costs at Firestone tires? I have a $20 coupon so it must cost at leat $25 dollars.Would anyone know how much tire balancing costs at Firestone tires?
If a tire shop recently put that tire on, go have them do it for free. Tires come with a spin balance as part of the cost. If not, it should be about $15 per tire at any shop. Going out of balance is a matter of losing the lead spin weight attached where the tire meets the rim of the wheel. The fastest and surest way to tell if it is a balance problem on the front tire (assuming you have good tires) is to drive about 15mph and then drop the steering wheel briefly. If balance is a problem, you should see the steering wheel wobble.

If the spin is not a quick fix, you may be looking at an alignment.
shouldnt cost that much all they do is put it on balancer it spins it for about a minute and they tap the weights in place where it needs it. i would say about 25 dollars like you said.Would anyone know how much tire balancing costs at Firestone tires?
If you bought that tire at firestone they will balance and rotate your tires for free. and no its not 25$. depending where you live it might be 8$ give or take a few dollars.

How much do street sportbike tires cost?

I think I have a leak because I inflate the tires to 42psi and after a day of riding its down to 10psi. I'm pretty sure it a leak or does that just happen from day of riding? How much do street sportbike tires cost?
If you don't have a nail in the tire, you may not have a good seal on the bead of the tire (where the tire meets the rim) or a leaking valve stem. The centrifugal force can cause the stem to move a little and you lose air.

Use the small bit of detergent to find the leak in the tire. Slightly move the valve stem around and see if you get a leak around the base. You can also check the core. Take the cap off of the stem and spray some on the end.

If it's a bad valve or a poor seal, take it to a shop and have them repair it. There may be a bit of rubber flashing preventing a good seal around the rim.

If it's a nail, and a small one, you can have it patched or do it yourself. Many shops won't do it because of the liability involved. I've patched three of my tires without any problems. One tire I did replace because the puncture was caused by a larger bit rather than a small nail. You have to make a judgement call. If you're not sure, replace it. It's your life you're talking about. I know how I ride and can assess the risk for my life and not yours.

    Ride safe
its a leak or leaky valve,

New tires cost around $150- $200. Yup, that means really expansive tire repair. For you it sounds like your going to need new tires. You can't patch motorcycle tires like the one on cars. It doesn't matter if its just a small air leak. On sport bikes tires are thinner and can bust very easy when going fast. DON'T ride on bad tires your life is on the line. I've had to buy new tires very time a had a flat.
You are correct in your thinking, riding won't cause pressure lose.

Unless you have a shop patch the tire, which on must 'sportbike's is not allowed by states law, you can find them for starting at $180, plus mount and balance. Have you checked the tire when full? Place a small amount os liquid soap in a spray bottle, then start at the valve stem. If no bubbles appear there, then check the bead (where the rubber mounts to wheel). If none appear there either, then the fun begins......start on the tread, about six to eight inch section at a time. How much do street sportbike tires cost?
He's right, $150-$200 and you must replace them. It sounds like you are riding hard. Are both tires doing that? If either tire goes out in a corner you are done for, if your front goes out at any time you are really done. See if the shop you get them from offers road hazard insurance on your new tires.
I will point out one thing I noticed that has not been addressed.

42 psi is too high for any use. I know, I know the manufacture says 42 on the side of the bike. I have been riding a racing for a couple days and I can tell you 42 is too high. Don't take my word for it ask around.

42 is good if you are running 150 everywhere but for those who don鈥檛 that is too high. It will also cause faster wear on the tire.

I would run about 35-37 in the M1.

I recommend a Metzler M1 for the street for an aggressive rider. They are cheap and they stick like glue. They also wear fast.

For a longer lasting tire the M3 and other new generation long lasting tires are good but they are not as sticky. You can get 3xs the miles out of them.

Oh ya I agree with the stem check. That is the likely source of the leak. You can just have the stem replaced.

Pretend you have a flat tire. Use the spare tire to remove the first tire to be rotated. Drive to the next parking lot. Pretend you have a flat tire. Remove a tire and swap it with the first tire you removed (now in your trunk). You get the idea I'm sure.Illegal to rotate your tires on the street?
An oil change is NOT illegal because of 'hazardous fluids'. ANY non-emergency vehicle maintenance on a PUBLIC street is illegal.

How does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?

I have seen ads for getting your tires filled with nitrogen, They claim it gives you better gas milage. I am not doubting their claim I just wanted to know how it gives you better gas milage and are there other advantages or disadvantages of doing itHow does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
They are trying to pull a fast one. Plain air is 78.1% Nitrogen already. Using pure Nitrogen in your street tires would be a total waste of your money.
cause your car floatsHow does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
    It doesnt it is BS
The fact is that pure nitrogen will not escape from your tyres as fast as air does (and even tht is very slow rate), so your tyres are more likely to be correctly inflated and give better fuel consumption.

If you check your tyres pressures on a weekly basis then nitrogen will make no difference at all.How does nitrogen filled tires give you better gas milage?
Nitrogen is stable and does not change pressure at different temperatures, So therfore it doesn't expand and contract when the tires heat up and cool down causing consistant tire pressure and all operating temps. It's basic, and no there are not ripping you off. I use nitrogen all the time for pressure testing refrigeration systems.
Air is 79% nitrogen already, so the question is really what would happen if you filled your tyres with air, and took out all the oxygen.

I think the answer is: not a lot!
Nitrogen is good if you are concerned about the change in tire pressure as they heat up and leakage from the tire over time. Other than that there is no benefit. For a car driven on the street this is a waste of effort.

  • Will my car pass inspection with two different size tires?

I just replaced two tires on my car. The originals were 175/70R14, but the new ones (that are on the front) are 175/65R14.

I'm in the process of getting low pro's for my 2005 Dodge Neon, but I don't have the money to get the back tires yet. I'm getting my car inspected soon, and was wondering if a garage would actually pass it?

BTW, had it inspected a couple of months ago, and the garage told me that it was fine except I needed to replace two tires. Will my car pass inspection with two different size tires?
No problem with two different size tires. Some new cars are made this way. The Corvette has wider back tires. It will pass inspection as long as the tires on the same axle match. Will my car pass inspection with two different size tires?
    Junior's right.

On one car I had 14" fronts and 15" rears. Will my car pass inspection with two different size tires?

How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?

This is my first car- it's a 1989 cheverolet cavalier. I just recently got an oil change and a leak fixed and they discovered the water pump also needs replacing. It probably needs a tune up, an alignment for sure and new front tires.

I was just wondering what some ballpark prices would be to get those things taken care of since I've never had anything to do with cars before. Thanks! How much is a tune up,water pump and all weather tires?

How much air do I want to keep in my bike tires?

I have a road cylcle/mt bike hybrid. How much air do I want keep in the tires? Do I need to use an air pressure gauge or should they just be filled to firm. How much air do I want to keep in my bike tires?
check your sidewalls. the recomended psi will be there. use a floor pump with a guage on it, available at any bike shop. good pumps will have an arrow that you can position at your desired psi. when the needle hits the arrow, you're good to go. no reading tiny numbers! get a pump with a dual chuck (works with schrader or presta valves).
Use a guage...most hand pumps have them. The surest way to flat is to have your tires under-inflated. One good bump on an underinflated tire causes the tube to bottom out and pinch on the rim, giving you two small holes where the two sides of the rim cut the tube. This is known as (obviously) a pinch flat or a snakebite.

The tire sidewall has minimum and maximum pressures listed. On an MTB you sometimes bring the pressure down to the minimum for better traction in rain and other bad weather, but most of the time (especially in the city and commuting) you want to stay as close to the max as you can. In addition preventing flats, you'll feel the lower rolling resistance make it easier to pedal. How much air do I want to keep in my bike tires?
no firm could be out rated because i used to do that and can't tell you how many tires i pop blow up or flats i had heres what you do you first go to wal-mart or a bike shop and get you a tire pump with a gauge on it they are like $10 then you go and look on the side wall of your tires some left some right there will be a a psi max rateing on it don't put no more than that in it or you might pop the tire for ex only my bike right side MAX PSI 90 so hope this helps
Look on the tire's sidewall. It will always have the max tire pressure. Unless you are slogging through mud or loose dirt, unlikely on a hybrid, you should inflate the tire to the max pressure. That will not only reduce the chance of flats, it will also minimize rolling resistance.

What are the benefits of inflating your tires with nitrogen gas?

I noticed a local tire shop that is now offering this service, and I just wondered what benefits having nitrogen in my tires would give me....or, is this just a gimick, since our own atmosphere is mostly nitrogen, anyway???What are the benefits of inflating your tires with nitrogen gas?
I've used nitrogen inflation in racing car tires for a long time. The advantage that I have personally observed is nitrogen has a more predictable change in pressure as temperature increases. This is because you do not have the unknown factor of the amount of moisture in the compressed air. This is important because you are looking for an optimal "hot" pressure and you start off the race with a "cold" tire. To contradict what someone else said, all gases change pressure as temperature changes. Nitrogen will not have a constant pressure over a temperature range, just be more predictable.

For road cars the only real advantage that I see is that you do not have any oxygen or water inside the tire. This might prolong the life of the internal structure of the tire by preventing corrosion, or it might not. I don't think it would make a difference over a few years. I do inflate my trailer tires with nitrogen, because I never use my trailers enough to wear the tread off the tire before they fail from tread separation, dry rot, or cords slipping.

For a couple hundred bucks or less you can have your very own nitrogen setup for refilling your tires.
Nitrogen is a totally dry inert gas. It is used to stabilize the pressure in your tires. Nitrogen atoms are larger than Oxygen atoms making it (N) more difficult to pass through the tire sidewalls. With a more constant tire pressure, the theory is that tire wear, handling, fuel economy, rolling resistance, etc. will be improved by not seeing your tires over or under inflated. I have heard that it costs about $10 to change the air to Nitrogen in four tires. I have heard that the effect of Nitrogen filled tires cannot be detected unless you are driving a lot of miles per year. RSVPWhat are the benefits of inflating your tires with nitrogen gas?
Just the latest fad gimmick.... some race cars use it in their tires because the pressure is more consisent than regular air. For the average motorist, not worth the money to have it done.
trust your judgement, yes it is worthless. What are the benefits of inflating your tires with nitrogen gas?
The nitrogen has larger molecules and it will keep the temperature and pressures more constant. This will help with mileage and tire wear. Good luck. Around here they want 7.50 a tire to fill it with nitrogen.
thers only one benefit. nitrogen pressure dosent change with temperature as o2 dose
Nitrogen in tires is becoming a popular replacement for standard air. Nitrogen is all around us... the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the rest is small amounts of other gasses. When it comes to tire inflation, nitrogen has many advantages over oxygen. With nitrogen tire inflation, improvements can be noted in a vehicle's handling, fuel efficiency and tire life through better tire pressure retention, improved fuel economy and cooler running tire temperatures
None.. Test were performed on Big truck tires and the result was absolutley no temperature difference In the tires after 2000 miles of running one type of tire on the truck and trailer. One side filled with nitrogen and the other with pumped air. The rumor was that the Nitrogen would keep the tires running at a cooler temp. Helping the problem of Blow outs on tires from overheating.

Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?

I need to get a new tire on my car because I've been driving on a donut and my mom keeps suggesting I just get a used tire since I don't have much money for a new tire right now. But when I priced used tires and the charge to have them put it on, I may as well buy a new tire! The only way for me to save is if my husband puts the tire on for me. Of course he doesn't have one of those pressurized machines that they have at the shop. Is it safe to drive on a tire for a long time that you just put on yourself? Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
It is not easy to get a car tire off the rim or to put a new tire on the rim if you don't have some equipment that most people don't have. It can be done, but by the time you are half through you will wish you had paid to have it done. You probably need a new valve stem as well as a replacement tire and it will certainly need to be balanced if you are going to drive it at highway speed.

BTW, you didn't ask, but riding for a long time or at high speed on the doughnut is dangerous and will make you have to replace it too and they are not cheap. I would park it until I could afford to fix it.
If it's put on right it is. Driving on a donut is dangerous, does your husband know what he's doing? Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
I install all my own tires. It would be tough to install a tire on a wheel wrong. If it holds air it should be on right. It will be hard for him to change it without all the proper tools, and even with the tools it will be a hard job.

    GOOD LUCK
If he's going to put a tire on your car that has a rim on there already then it's ok he can do it. It's not hard. But if he has to install a rim on that tire then I suggest he take it somewhere so they can balance it. I hope that helps you.Is it safe to put on your own car tires, or do you need to go to a shop?
Its not actually that hard to put on a tyre. Your hubby will need a couple of tyre levers and a rubber hammer, also a valve key. however you will still need to get the wheel balanced at a tyre shop, another way is to go to the junkyard and find a car the same as yours and get the wheel and tyre off it
You need to get the tire balanced because the vibrations will wreck other parts on your car. I have changed car tires with a pry bar and it is extremely hard work. Plus you run the risk or damaging the bead of the tire. Just get it done at a shop. If you need to drive on the donut don't put it on a drive wheel. Example front wheel drive donut on back. Otherwise you will destroy the differential in the car.
depends on if you know what you doing its not easy and it takes strength an used tires normally run about 20 bucks

You could fit 35x12.50, but will get slight rubbing when turned to full lock either direction, and the tire might barely touch the rear part of the front fender under full suspension compression. Have a tire shop slam some tires on one of your rims and mount it o the front and cycle the steering and see what fit and what hits.

Why do they put tires next to racetracks as opposed to just fences?

I am doing a science project on impulses, and was wondering why they use tires. Of course if they put a wall that would just be dumb, so please answer semi-scientifically and not just "WELL THEN YOU WOOD DIE". Thanks! Why do they put tires next to racetracks as opposed to just fences?
They used to use fences in F1, but they stopped because in some types of accident the fence actually made things worse, not better. They were fine in head-on accidents, but when a car was sliding sideways they would cause the car to flip over on impact.
With regards to impulse it is important to remember that impulse is proportional to the average force, and if we assume that mass is constant the impulse is really proportional to the average acceleration. With impulse what you are essentially trying to study is the average force of the impact.

Take the first situation where you have a solid wall. For ease of intuition lets assume that the impact causes the car to stop instantly. Remember that average force: Favg = m(鈭唙/鈭唗) As t approaches 0 the average force approaches infinity (recall that average acceleration is equal to 鈭唙/鈭唗). Part of the function of the tyre wall is to increase the amount of time required for the impact. So for a given change in velocity the longer the amount of time taken the lower the average force.

This can be hidden somewhat by the impulse formula which cancels the time variables:

    Impulse = Favg*鈭唗

    = m(鈭唙/鈭唗)*鈭唗

    = m鈭唙

Technically regardless of the time the reaction takes, the Impulse itself should be the same, however the decceleration the driver experiences can vary immensely depending on the time that the reaction takes. It could be the difference between a 50g stop and a 20g stop. Neither one is comfortable but you would be more likely to walk away from a 20g incident in an F1 car. There are also other advantages to tyre walls such as the energy dissipation and conservation of momentum. Why do they put tires next to racetracks as opposed to just fences?
The tyre wall or tyre barriers are there to absorb the impact and disperse the energy of the crash.

Tires are bouncy. Fences are not.Why do they put tires next to racetracks as opposed to just fences?
Tires absorb some of the impact, Like someone else has said and fences are harder and made of wire.
because the tire will absorb some of the impact and the fence will not
It helps to have the tyres nearby for the pit crew to change em, after all those 6 second pit stops might take a little longer if the tyres were in the next county. To my knowledge, fences have never been much help in the tyre changing process.

The tires size is 185-65-14, the tires don't have any brand name on the sides, just big letters STEEL BELTED, and says in smaller letters all season. But I don't see the brand name. How do I find out what brand are they? How do I find out what brand of tires I have on my car?
They are some cheap private label (generic) brand, probably sold under lots of different brand names. Good luck finding out which, not that it matters. Like I said they are generic tires.
If they don't say, which I find hard to believe. There probably cheap junk. Go to a tire store and let them look at them Do they say made in china on them? How do I find out what brand of tires I have on my car?
I have seen these tires before....they are really in-expensive tires and just about anything is better....I never looked into why they do not have a name or where they come from....mainly because nobody would go out of their way to buy these tires a second time
There should be a DOT code on the side of the tire, with that DOT code, you should be able to call free 1-800 number at tire rack and they can help you out.How do I find out what brand of tires I have on my car?
there's a name on them some place, you are just going to have to look harder.
Its amazing that there is no brand name on your tire ! 185 - is the width of your tire in millimeters - 65 is the aspect ratio- which means that the sidewall "height" of your tire is 65% of the width (in millimeters). 14 - this is the diameter of the rim in inches. Just thought you might be intetsted to know !

Dont they have the speed rating on the tire ? this is normally an alphabet - Z being the highest rating.

Why do race cars have to have their tires changed so often?

I just put new tires on my car, and they have a 50,000 mile warranty- so ideally it won't be until at least that many miles have been driven on those tires that I'll have to get new ones. In NASCAR, they only go like what, 500 miles in a race? So why do they have to change their tires so often? Is it like a couple times a race that they do?Why do race cars have to have their tires changed so often?
because you dont drive fast also they have no tread..

they wear down due to heat produced by racing
Because there purpose built racing tires and have a much softer rubber compound to provide more grip. Softer rubber wears out faster. Plus there running them hard at 3 times the speeds you drive down the highway on the way to work. 500 miles on a race car is said to be worth 1000's of miles on a street car as far as wear and tear. The tire's get abused. For example, Bolt your 50,000 mile tires on the rear of my Camaro and I could destroy them with one big 30 second smoky burnout!.......No problem.

I have street legal 'Drag Radials' on my Camaro. There is no treadwear rating on them because there purpose built tires made to grip accelerating in a straight line. Period.

When I bought them they had warnings that said....Do Not drive in rain or temperatures below 32 degrees. So I don't.Why do race cars have to have their tires changed so often?
I agree with the previous answer but also they are designed to wear down quickly. Because of the heat produced if the tires didn't wear then the tires would cure and thus lose all traction.

Here is a good article that explains NASCAR tire tecnology:

    http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-racin鈥?/a>
Race cars have to have their tire changed more often particularly in NASCAR, because the rubber is softer than regular production tire. Racing tires spin against the pavement from the accelleration of an 850 H.P. engine. They use a softer tire rubber compound to get more grip or traction. The cars have extreme camber angles which is that the tire is tilted either "in" at the top, on the the passenger side (right) and outward on the driver side (left) which makes them wear more also. The extreme camber angle is because the cars are turning left an an extremely high rate of speed. Also while they are going around corners, they are sliding. Kind of like drifting. The sliding of the car salso wear off more rubber on the tire surface. They use tires with no tread for increased traction and this creates more heat. But race car tires take much more abuse than regular production or passenger car tires. One of my favorite examples of how a racing tire wear out faster is the rear tire on a motorcycle. If you put a soft rubber compound tire you get better accelleration through grip, but if you ride hard all season long you can wear a tire out in as little as 2000 miles. On passenger cars you can easily get 50,000 miles on your tires, because your tire isn't spinning on the pavement, and the camber angle is close to 90 degrees with the pavement. Your not putting that much horspower to the drive wheels, and your not cornering as hard. In fact if you drive slower than average, and slow down before coming to a turn on the highway, or a clover-leaf, your tires will last longer. But race car tires are made of a totally different kind of rubber than passenger or production vehicles. Everything used in a racing application will not have any type of warranty, due to it's extreme and excessive use. So when you put a new set of tires on a race car, you have an instant performance advantage against the guys who have worn out tires. It's like wearing a new pair of shoesWhy do race cars have to have their tires changed so often?
    Because fresh tires win races.

    v
The compound is so unique that a couple of laps on a decent temp track would increase the tire pressure becasue of the downforce + heat being applied to the tires.

Thats why they dont run wet races, the rubber wouldn't heat and would literally break apart like a small eraser in your hand.
For the speeds that the cars run and how abrasive the tracks the tires need replaced because they wear out. At certain tracks during a fuel run the lap times can be about 2 seconds slower, in racing that is a lot.

Where can I get bike rims with the tires already mounted on them?

I have 16 year old BMX bike that the wheels and tires are about to just fall apart. I can't find anywhere to buy a front wheel with the tire mounted on it, or a rear wheel with a tire and a crank on that either. Can someone send me a link to where I might find them?Where can I get bike rims with the tires already mounted on them?
you have no idea what you are talking about

    this makes no sense

    wle
Wheels are not sold with tires already mounted. If you bought the wheels and tires in a bike shop they would probably mount the tires for you, but it really isn't all that difficult to do yourself. Before you go any farther with this, make sure that the bike is worth fixing up. If the wheels are in such bad shape that they need to be replaced, it is very possible that the bike needs other work as well and you could end up spending more than it would cost to buy a complete bike. If you lack the necessary skills to install a set of tires, you might be well advised to take your bike to a shop to see if it is worth fixing.Where can I get bike rims with the tires already mounted on them?
No such thing. You have to learn how to mount a tire on a rim if you want to bicycle.

And there is no "crank" on a rear wheel. Rear wheels have "freewheels" with "sprockets".

You should use a bicycle glossary, so we know what part you are talking about:

This is EXACTLY what your local bike shop is for! Just go in and tell them what you want. I would take in my bike to look at so they can advise you better!

Your local bike shop can fix you right up. Google "bicycle shop" + your zip code. Brings them all up in your area. Start making phone calls to compare prices.

  • Can I sue the dealership for selling me with bald tires which caused me an accident?

Got into an uncontrolled vehicle accident in mild wet lane with the used car I just brought from the private dealership. I got an ticket for having bald tires on the rear. I hurt my back, can I file a law suit against the dealership for not taken care of it before selling to customer??? If anyone know any place I can file claim or suit. Please write it down. Thank You.

State of Georgia. Can I sue the dealership for selling me with bald tires which caused me an accident?
In most states, unless othewise agreed to, used cars are sold in an "as-is" condition. Some states may require certain safety features be in place before a sale, but, otherwise, it would by YOUR responsibility to check the tires on the vehicle before you agreed to buy it.

Add to that, the fact that, as a driver, YOU are responsible to inspect your car before you put it on the road. As far as the cop that issued you a ticket is concerned, no one FORCED you to get in a drive a car with bald tires.

    You appear to be S.O.L.
First of all, suing is not always the answer. There are some instances when suing is the proper way to go about a situation, but this is not the time to sue. If you try to sue, you will lose because it is the buyer's responsibility to make sure that the vehicle was sold with the proper tires and other equipment. This was not the dealerships fault, but it was yours. You are to inspect the vehicle and you should ensure it is in tip top shape before being sold. So you can sue if you want to, but you are wasting your time. If it was sold that way, the buyer is at fault for not looking at the condition of the vehicle. Can I sue the dealership for selling me with bald tires which caused me an accident?
I think you are looking at a lost cause. First it is always buyer beware. you are responsible for verifying a car is fit for your use before you buy it. So the assumption here is that the rear tires were OK at time of sale or you would have had them replaced before you bought it.

Etc, etc. Anything you try to do to lay the blame for your misfortune will be turned on you in court.
    define "just bought".

If it was the day before, or maybe even the week before, you might have recourse, but if the tires were legal when you took possession of the car, it's your problem. Can I sue the dealership for selling me with bald tires which caused me an accident?
No. If you wanted good tires you should have bought them or negotiated with the dealership to have them put on new ones.

Its your own fault buying a car that may not have been "safe" to drive.
Didn't you check the tires BEFORE you bought it? Oh, you DID?

Forget it --- you want someone to blame, pal.
you are out of luck, car was sold as is
    Yes.

I just bought 4 new Bridgestone tires for my car. How many miles can I expect to get out of them?

I just replaced all 4 tires on my 1999 Toyota Solara with brand new Bridgestone tires. How many miles can I expect to get out of them, or how many years? Thanks!I just bought 4 new Bridgestone tires for my car. How many miles can I expect to get out of them?
It depends on what grade of tire you bought. Most tires go about 60000 miles.I just bought 4 new Bridgestone tires for my car. How many miles can I expect to get out of them?
Need to know what model they are.

Make sure your car is properly aligned and that you are rotating them every 6000 miles.I just bought 4 new Bridgestone tires for my car. How many miles can I expect to get out of them?
IS in your brand new tire warranty. You do need to follow regular tire rotation to have the warranty valid, and most important don't expect to get a brand new tire and not pay for something if you do need to get the warranty to replace one or all of them beyond 5,000 miles.

Does anyone know if 2007 honda fits come with tires that are no good in the snow? Or is it my driving?

I just drove my fit in about 4-5 inches of snow for the first time and it slipped like crazy and I could feel the auto brakes working. I've been driving for more than 30 years and this is the worst I've ever slipped. How do I know which tires go on the front?

I am changing back to summer tires, and just realized there are two different types of tires by two different manufacturers. One pair is slightly wider, with wider treads, the other pair is slightly thinner with more treading but the gaps between the treads are smaller. Which pair goes on the front and which on the back? Does a tire rotation have to be done while the tires are being balanced?

The alignment is off on my front tires, will a shop just balance the tires and not rotate them, i am afraid the front tires may be damaged.Does a tire rotation have to be done while the tires are being balanced?
its best to go get the aligment done first, then have costco balance the tires, even if you have worn the fronts funny, getting the alignment done correctly, and putting the fronts on the back will actually help the tires last longer in the long run, costco will just balance the tires, tell them not to rotate them because you have to get the alignment done, they will do what ever it says on the work order, so tell the guy at the front counter, no problems.
they will rotate them if you ask them. but you don,t need to rotate them after you get them balanced but it,s a good idea. if you have 2 jacks you can rotate them yourself. just bring the back up to the front and the front to the back. just remember to keep them on the same side.Does a tire rotation have to be done while the tires are being balanced?
The Shop will do whatever you instruct them to do. If you tell them you want your tires balanced but that you do not want them rotated, then they will do that. Just tell them when they write up the work order.
They will only do what you pay for. If you say balance the front, that's all they'll do.Does a tire rotation have to be done while the tires are being balanced?
nothing is free. you must ask for it or maybe its "included" in the price make sure always

Do you need to remove the front tires to replace the sway bar links?

I need to replace the sway bar links on my 1993 truck. It looks like I can get at them pretty easily without removing the tires, if I just drive it up on ramps. Is there any reason to jack it up and remove the tires, or is it perfectly reasonable to replace them without removing the tires?Do you need to remove the front tires to replace the sway bar links?

No need to remove the tires, the swaybar is independent from the rest of the suspension. You don't even need it to operate the vehicle it just helps the car from swaying at higer rates of speed.Do you need to remove the front tires to replace the sway bar links?

New tires and now car is pulling to the left?

Hi I just got new tires and noticed it is now pulling to the left. Not that I usually drive with no hands, but usually if I took my hands off it would go completely straight. Is this normal after new tires? Will it go away by itself? I will call the tire people tomorrow but I want to make sure I know what I am talking about first. Does something else need to be fixed? Expensive?New tires and now car is pulling to the left?
you need a wheel alignment, that's the only thing that will make your car pull like that unless the air pressure in the new tires are low in one tire or you have a brake caliper hanging up a little on one side, anytime you get new tires you should have the car aligned.
Have the front tires swapped left to right. If the pull goes away and it drives straight your fine. If it switches to the right you have a "radial pull" which can happen even with new tires. If nothing changes it is a vehicle problem, possibly wheel alignment. Most modern vehicles takea 4-WHEEL alignment, not just a front end alignment. We're not all driving 73' Buick's anymore. Wheel alignment though contrary to popular opinion rarely causes a pull condition. The alignment angle that causes a pull (camber) is not even adjustable on most modern vehicles. It is almost always the tires that are the culprit.

If it is a radial pull you may be able to get the offending tire swapped by the store for a different one, but radial pulls are not considered a safety issue so it is not covered under warranty by the tire manufacturer.New tires and now car is pulling to the left?
first check the air in the tires an d truth is any time you get new tires should have front end alignment check and new tires should always go on rear (michelin states that in a test i just pass)

its not right it was pulling before now it is either tires low or one is bad or out of alignment
the alignment could be off or they did that on purpose to get you back in the shop for more work (it does happen quite a bit actually) either way you need your alignment checked, i would try and find a shop that can give you the best price and not go back to the other shop again just to be sure.New tires and now car is pulling to the left?
Every time you buy new tires or rotate your tires, you need to have it aligned. Go to a shop and ask for a front end alignment. I have my tires rotated and front end aligned every six thousand miles.
The person that put the tires on should have told you that you needed to have an front end alignment. If the tires were put on in a garage, they also should have been balanced.
Hi i work at a car and tire shop.. by the sounds of it your going to need a wheel alignment done and for expensive it isn't that bad less then what you paid for the tires for sure.!!
One of the new tires may be bad. The easiest way to tell is to swap the tires left to right and see if the car pulls the other way.
Check your air pressure. Having more pressure in one side than the other will make the vehicle pull just like alignment. Based on the tires just being replaced, that's probably the issue since new tires may leak a little when first mounted.
Did the tire guy say anything about uneven tire wear ?? Could just need an alignment. Were your old tires bald ?? Bald tires can mask an alignment problem.

  • How dangerous is it to have trailer tires on my vehicle?

I bought a used vehicle at the end of October and today as I was washing my car I noticed that all 4 of my tires said "Trailer Service Only". I will be calling the dealer to have them replace the tires with the appropriate tires for my vehicle. I was just curious. How dangerous is it to have trailer tires on my vehicle?
They are not rated for the speed a car travels. Look at the numbers on the side of the tire.

If they don't have a P on them for passenger then they shouldn't be on your car.

I know you see people driving down the highway all the time doing 60-70-80 mph pulling trailers but they are wrong. Trailers are not rated to travel at that speed.

What pressure should i set my 51psi max tires at?

I just bought a 96 camaro that the previous owner had put $770 (on sale) yokohamas on. i found that they were all at about 25psi and the max is 51psi. what should i set the pressure at? im thinking 40 but whats your thought. if it makes a difference, they are the wide, low profile tires that you see on camaros. thanks! What pressure should i set my 51psi max tires at?
35-40 psi sounds about right to me.

Try them at 40 for a while and if that rides too rough you can try lowering them down to 35.
If they are true low profile tires less than 2.5 inches tall from the rim they need to be up around that 50psi.. low profiles dont have the luxury of having 4 inch wide walls to adsorb the shock of daily driving, yeah if you where running slicks the rear tires would have a lower pressure to ensure max grip if the tires arent at proper pressure they will wear uneven and badly.. go with what is said on the tire the interior door jab is for the ORIGINAL tires not aftermarket..What pressure should i set my 51psi max tires at?
Look in your driver side doorway, or under the hood. There will be a label for your recommended tire pressure. If not, that will be in your owners manual. I would assume they will recommend around 32psi cold.

Check the yokohama website, or call their customer service line and ask. Aftermarket low profile tires may require different/higher pressure than stock. I'd put them around 40psi for now.
    Hunter,

Between 32 to 35. Anything more where wear your rubber to quickly and unevenly. Keep it 32 and above and no higher than mid-thirties, always. You will be set.

gWhat pressure should i set my 51psi max tires at?
What it says on the Tire Load and Inflation Sticker located (as on almost all cars) the door frame and visible when you open the drivers door.
    Max - 5
that should be good. could also look up tire model number online and check manufacturer recommended specs
Setting tires below their max offer ride comfort and nothing more. Somewhere between what the manuf recommends and the tire max which feels best to you. Maximum traction and economy is achieved at the tire's near max. 48-50 in your case.
EDIT Addendum: Tires are not even close to the way they used to be manufactured. Tire pressures are going up and profiles are getting lower and lower for increased handling. How would someone be stuck on the 32 PSI thing I just dont know. No manufacturer is going to give a max pressure that woiuld cause excessive wear. Excessive wear is caused by over inflation which means going OVER the max. Riding 32 PSI on low profile tires wll feel like you are tracking through mud. The vehicle will have a latent response in turns, and turns will tend to wear the tire quickly and have poorer traction. You can prove it to yourself by doing this: fill the tire to 32 PSI and turn the wheel completely to one side and go. note your turning radius. now inflate to the max and do the same. Presto! now your turning radius is tighter because the is less tire slippage. at 32 PSI, you can even hear the tires slipping as too much edge and not enough flat surface of the tire is even on the road at 32 PSI ((this is of course in regards to your tires which have a 51 PSI max, not old school 32 PSI rubber) Old school tires with a 32 PSI max should be at that, 32. Apples may be apples, but not all of them taste the same, some are for cooking and some are for eating, some are sweet and some are sour. Tires vary tremendously. Those tires you now have at 32 PSI will give you a ton of understeer and poor economy. You will be turning the wheel and the car will not respond as much as you anticipate. as you turn the wheel more you will hear the slipping sound of the tire not capable of performing its function at that speed like it could fully inflated. Try riding a bike with an under inflated front tire but be very careful because it is not going to respond to the sharp turns

How to inflate tires at gas station?

I've never inflated tires on a car before, and took a trip to a few gas stations around here. All of the stations had air stations with just a plain tube to pump air straight into the tire, but none of them had a pressure gage. Is it common knowledge that you're supposed to bring your own tire gage to check the tire pressure before and after inflating your tires? Or am I missing something? How to inflate tires at gas station?
It's not a bad idea to have your own gauge to check the pressure. Some stations have a gauge built into the end of the hose when you let off of the valve on the airhose it pops out and reads the tire pressure. Since you have no idea how the gauges on the air hoses have been treated it is still a good idea to check with your own gauge. You can pick one up at walmart for around $1.00. Remember to fill your tires to the pressure recommended by your car maker. The correct pressure is listed on the inside of most cars drive side door.
Buying your own tire pressure gauge is a must. You should check your tire pressures every 2-4 weeks to ensure your tires are at the correct pressure. When filling your tires at a gas station check your door tag (normally drivers side), it should tell you what pressure to set if the tires are cold (if it's hot outside and you've been driving a while add appx 2-3psi more then check them the next morning to ensure they are correct). Check the tire pressure before filling and make sure you release some air out of the compressor hose (water builds up in the line). Correct tire pressures ensure optimal fuel economy, even tire wear and life, and prevents blow outs due to over or under-inflation. Do not fill the tire to the max pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire that can lead to blow-out while driving!!!! Drive safely. How to inflate tires at gas station?
Different tires will require different pressures, but fortunately, most of them print it somewhere on the tire. Sometimes those machines have pressure gauges on them and sometimes they don't. You can get one really cheap, though, at a Wal-Mart or even a gas station. You want to fill your tire as close as you can to the PSI that the tire states. If you go too far over, just move that little pin in the valve to the side, and you'll release some. Good luck!
Lots of Gas Stations have had their tire pressure gauges stolen. So now they just put those hoses with the part to put air in a tire as they only cost something like a couple bucks and the ones with air gauges cost up to twenty.

I go by sight when I need air in my tires but really that isn't good. That is why I really like Discount Tire as they will check your air pressure and add or take away what is needed for no charge.

So your not missing anything. You just didn't know why they don't have gauges.

Hope this helps and have a Blessed Day. How to inflate tires at gas station?
Yes lots of them have no gage. Go to an auto parts store and buy a 5 or 6 dollar gage(more accurate than Walmart) and keep it in the glove box. You can borrow the gage from the gas station but those may have been thrown around or dropped, etc so may not be accurate. If you use one gage all the time you will have a more accurate constant air pressure..........ujn
Yes, bring your own. Even if they have one, don't trust it. They are abused and are often off on their readings. Buy the pencil type as generally speaking they are more accurate than the dial gauges.
Yes you should have your own pressure gauge. They are very cheap. I also have a digital one that works nice at night. Even if there is one on the air pump, you may not want to trust that it is right on.
There are some things you should always have in your car, a tire pressure gage is one of them.

Should I contest a parking ticket for my tires touching the crosswalk?

I live in Brooklyn and had to pay $200 towing fee + a $115 ticket. I was touching the crosswalk with my tires, but I feel like the fine is excessive? Do I have a chance of being forgiven the fine if I plead my case in the hearing?

I've read that people get out of tickets sometimes just by showing up.Should I contest a parking ticket for my tires touching the crosswalk?
When parking on a street, your Traffic Code indicates the space which you must leave between the front of your car and the crosswalk, usually approximately 10 feet.....so, check your Traffic Code.

As far as showing up in court goes, yes, I have seen where people "get off" paying fines if the officer who ticketed you doesn't show up

At any rate, you do have to pay for the towing fee, and perhaps prove you have receipt of paying your ticket before you can get your car back........so check with the towing facility compound where your car is located........
wow..im glad i moved away...tickets in my town are 10 dollars fight it if you have the time but i dont think u can win...its you VS the state of NY...[or the city of NY]Should I contest a parking ticket for my tires touching the crosswalk?
If you contest it, plead NOT GUILTY. Otherwise you'll show up, waste a day, and still have to pay the fine.
The tires may have touched but the rest of the car ahead of the tires adds to the problem--so I doubt if you will win---don't waste your time. You didn't take pictures and the judge will not have anything to gauge the testimony by.---words mean nothing.Should I contest a parking ticket for my tires touching the crosswalk?
It works the same in all states, show up and talk about the ticket to the judge dont contest it because that will make him or her very upset, your chances are 50/50, good luck.

Is there something else that can be done besides buying new tires?

I have a 2005 Cadillac CTS...I love the car, but the rear tires seem to always spin (on turns) when the ground is wet....I just bought new tires over the summer (pretty good ones too), and its still happening....

Do I got to throw some things in the trunk to weight the back down or something???

What can I do?Is there something else that can be done besides buying new tires?
Hard to answer without knowing what brand and model of tires you are currently using. Extra weight in the rear may just make it worse due to inertia. Is there something else that can be done besides buying new tires?
no YOU either need to get DIrectional tires or go with a performance tire. Its just not all tires have the same grip for curtain torque.

How do I get tires to look wider on my truck?

I have seen other trucks that have tires that are out farther than normal. Do they extend their axel or just buy wider rims and tires? send pic links. How do I get tires to look wider on my truck?
get a reversed wheel as they set the tire out farther. How do I get tires to look wider on my truck?
tire spacers. they go between the wheel and the axle. check your state laws before installing because they're illegal in some. How do I get tires to look wider on my truck?
You can purchase wheel spacers at J.C.Whitney. But as seen on a previous answer be careful offloading because these do make your wheels more prone to bending. Also be sure to check local and state laws.
You can use wheel spacers but the best option is to use negative offset (example et-20) wheels. On such wheels the spokes are more inner than outer and it looks like a dish.

How are Motorcycle Tires Different from Regular Vehicle Tires?

Hi, I have been wanting to buy a motorcycle for a very long time now and just started wondering one day what would happen if you got a flat tire on a motorcycle? I mean, if you got a flat tire somehow then you'd pretty much be dead, especially on a highway. Is there some kind of safety protection that prevents flat tires? Maybe stronger tires that can't be pierced through by nails, glass, etc.?How are Motorcycle Tires Different from Regular Vehicle Tires?
I had a rear tire go flat once. The rear end slid to one side. I corrected by steering into the slide and then it slid to the other side. I zigzagged to a stop. It was scary but not that dangerous. I've never had a flat front tire, but that might be worse. It would also be worse if the tire just burst or 'blew out'. Usually a flat comes on slowly enough that you feel it coming. I've been riding for decades but I only had that one flat tire.

Motorcycle tires are very different from car or truck tires. They are softer, so they have more grip, which is needed because in curves you are putting a lot of sideways pressure on the wheel. They don't last nearly as long as car tires, maybe 10,000 miles. They are probably more dependable (against flats) than car tires, but then both are pretty dependable these days.

Also when you ride a motorcycle you learn to scan the surfaces in front of you and pick a line over the road to avoid loose stuff (gravel, broken glass, whatever). You don't do this as much in a car. Sliding a few inches sideways because there's gravel or dead leaves on the road doesn't bother you as much in a car, but on a motorcycle it can cause a spill, and you learn this right away after you have a spill or two. 8^) So it could be that riders just protect their tires more than drivers. How are Motorcycle Tires Different from Regular Vehicle Tires?
You can carry puncture plug kits to get you home, with a small compressed gas cylinder to pump it up 鈥?they are fine unless you puncture a sidewall.

The chances of having a catastrophic puncture 鈥?losing pressure very quickly 鈥?are less nowadays thanks to construction developments, not completely out of the question though. Normally you have time to react, check around you, signal and move to the side. It is possible to ride on a flat tyre 鈥?takes a bit of confidence to go round a corner though and will not do your wheels many favours.

If you find a nail in your tyre, and it hasn鈥檛 deflated, do not pull it out until you are home (go slow and keep checking the pressure) the chances are that it will hold in the puncture. How are Motorcycle Tires Different from Regular Vehicle Tires?
Motorcycle tires are built using more layers (plies) than auto tires, usually 7 ply where the tire contacts the road and 5 on the sidewall. Tires that were too tough to be pierced by nails would have to be so hard that they wouldn't offer any traction.

I have ridden 120 miles on a flat rear tire. I also rode 40 miles on a flat front. Both times it was because the valve stem broke. My bike has cast rims rather than spokes.

There is a product called, "Ride On" that some motorcyclists swear by. It temporarily seals punctures.

from my experience with motorcycles i've never really seen a full flat tire. i've seen them get low with air and before it becomes any danger at all you'd have had plenty of time to fill it up by then. i've never had any problems with motorcycle tires just getting flat on the highway.
