How can you tell if you have snow tires on your vehicle?

Ok basically I used to drive a tiny car that had snow tires and never had a problem driving in the snow. Now I drive an SUV and even though it's much larger, it's giving me a reallyyyy hard time driving in the snow and i dont feel as safe as I did in the tiny car. Anyway, I don't think the SUV has snow tires. Any idea on how to tell if it has snow tires? If I take it to a tire place and ask will they just laugh?|||One the side of the tire there is a marking indicating if your tire is M%26amp;S rated. Mud %26amp; Snow. This indicator is for light snow. This only indicates its rated for that and not necessarrily a snow tire. Snow tires on the other hand will have more sipes (slits in the tread) and possibly studs (spikes). Certain times of the year depending on which state, you can have these snow tires on without getting a ticket. Better to check with your local trusted tire co. Tread depth is a key factor also. The best test is to take a penny and put Abraham Lincoln upside down inbetween the tread. If there's space between his head and the tread, replace immediately. Good Luck|||Doesn't matter if they laugh or not they will tell you the truth and it is better safe than sorry. But the difference between snow tires and regular tires even all weather radials is very distinctive. Snow tires will be much rougher and have more small lines in them and the space between the treads will be wider and deeper even someone who knows almost nothing should be able to spot the difference.

Do you not have any male friends that you can ask? or your female friends that are married?|||There should be a small marking on the side wall that looks like a mountain and a giant snow flake. Also it should also say somewhere in the sidewall the marking "M%26amp;S" Mud and snow.

4wd are great for getting the vehicle going from stop to go, but remember you also need to turn and most importantly stop. So if you don't have snow tires, you probably should get them. If your thinking if its worth the money then ask your self spening $1200 (at the most on snow tires) worth you getting in an accident or even killed?
