Can I put different size tires on my car than the factory recommended size tires?

My car (98' ford contour se) has 205/60/15 tires on it now but i cant find any good used tires in the size. One of the shops i went to said they can put on 205/70/15's and they would be fine. Is that true or are they just trying to make a sale? Also the front tires and the back tires would be different because they didn't have any sets of 4.|||Of course. Anything that fits the rim and doesn't rub in the wheel well is fair-game. Note that handling will probably affected though, as taller tires (70 series) will allow more sidewall deflection when cornering. You parobably wont be hanging corners on used tires in a Contour anyway.

Also mix-matching brands is no problem|||Try a 195/65/15 they are cheaper and easier to find don't mix tire sizes keep them all the same size.|||Dont mix sizes side to side. front to back on both sides is ok.

2 same tire on front and 2 same on back = all good

only problem I see is that your speedo will be off with a different size than stock.

205 / 60 / 15

tirewidth/ %of tire widthhigh/ rim diameter

Changing the overall height of the tire, which the later # can do, will affect your speedo. you can get different sizes but the overall tire height has to be the same for your speedo to read accurate|||any size would work as long as they don't rub just as long as the two front ones are the same as your axels would be going different speeds
